Example of the HORSE GIRL SHOCKER: (with 3 contingencies)
YOU: “Hey do you like horses?”
GIRL: “HUH? Yeah, I guess.”
YOU: “Hmm, I thought so. Okay, check this out. When I was in the 6th grade, there was this girl who loved horses. She used to run around the playground for an hour straight at lunchtime. She’d be galloping and making horse noises. We used to call her the weird horse girl.”
GIRL: “Yeah, so?”
YOU: “Well…you look JUST LIKE HER!”
Try it 3-5 times to get the delivery down, and you’ll never go back.
The point of this opener is to create an emotional anchor in a target. Notice that you are making her remember what is it was like to be in grade school and be make fun of. Being a “horse-girl” is also very specific and she may feel a special connection with you.
