Nano-expressions can occur in high-stakes situations, where people have something to lose or gain. Unlike regular facial expressions, it is difficult to fake nano-expressions. Nano-expressions express seven universal emotions as micro-expressions: disgust, anger, fear, sadness, happiness.
Ever seen a girl who smiles with her mouth, but her eye muscles are unmoved? That is a fake smile. After she turns, the smile dissipates immediately. A genuine smile disappears much slower and has a tendency to change our internal state.
Reading nano-expressions is a skill set that is required to master micro-calibration.
