Quick Definition: The version of oneself that best represents his or her good qualities, usually exemplified in situations that require the pickup artist to be at his best.
The notion of the Best Self is not new to the self improvement movement. One of the pillars of inner game involves a journey of self discovery that requires the artist to explore what it means to be at his best.
What best constitutes Best Self may be different for different people. For pickup artists, it usually means a process of internalizing behavioral qualities that increase one’s S&R value. This can include speaking consistently more clearly and loudly in a conversation. It may also include having strong body language by standing straighter, which is good for your spine and exemplifies more alpha-ness.
Under pressure, most people don’t perform at their peak, but their “default average.” This means that, while every PUA has good nights, continually practicing to be your BestSelf will ensure a better average over time. Even when one is at “default” (such as chilling on the couch with friends), we are still a better representation of ourselves had we not begun the process of learning pickup.
At the end of the day, being one’s Best Self requires the artist to ask himself, “did I have any regrets today/this year/in my life? If I died tomorrow, did I have a good day today?” These questions ultimately can only be answered by the artist himself.
Don’t just be yourself, be your best self.
