Avant-garde is a French term that means “advance guard.” It is primarily used to refer to anything that is experimental and innovative. It is most often used when referring to fashion or the arts. In the case of fashion, something that is avant-garde is something that is unique; something that may be on the cusp of a trend, or fizzle out. Either way, something that is truly avant-garde is unique. While some fashions may quite honestly seem to be “too out there,” it should be noted that often times, individual pieces are more transferrable to everyday life than others. So, in the photographs below, while your average male may not wear these types of outfits, he could very well decide to wear one of the leather jackets, or shoes shown in these photos.
