When a PUA walks around introducing himself in a friendly manner, similar to a Mayor of a small town.

Full Definition:

Mayor walking is a technique that PUAs use to get into social state and to build their social confidence. By walking around talking to everyone that they come across, a PUA forces himself to get into a social mode, and gets him used to approaching and talking to strangers. PUAs also use mayor walking to short set venues in order to get into state and build social proof.

Mayor walking is an especially valuable exercise for newer PUAs who may be uncomfortable talking to strangers. Newbies can use the concept of mayor walking to put themselves in the role of the Mayor of their block, and talk to anyone that they come across on their block, regardless of who they are. They can then gradually expand their “territory” to include their entire neighborhood, their workplace, their favorite bar, etc. until they feel comfortable striking up conversations with anybody, anywhere.

  • Never heard the term ‘mayor walking’ before although it’s a great technique and I always encourage students to get talking to people on the way to the clubs for example. I’d refrain from doing it literally everywhere though… A bit of social savviness is required. :)

  • Hey that’s a good technique to get into state… and I have to say that this works GREAT at parties. Go from group to group introducing yourself and you’ll be gold a few hours later.

  • Good point. Calibration is always a must. I definitely do a bit of mayor walking in and around my neighborhood, and even when I go out. Having the attitude of “I am the mayor/owner of this venue, and I’m going to walk around giving value to everyone” is a good frame of mind to be in.
